GUS DUR (Kiai Haji Abdurrahman Wahid) ENG

Kiai  Haji  Abdurrahman Wahid, nicknamed Gus Dur was born in Jombang,  East Java,  7 September  1940  - died 

in  Ciganjur, 30 December  2009  at the age of 69 years, born from the couple  Wahid Hasyim  and Solichah. He was the first son of six children. Wahid was born in a family of highly respected in the Muslim community in East Java. Grandfather from his father was K.H. Hashim Asyari, founder of  Nahdlatul Ulama  (NU), while his maternal grandfather,  KH Bisri, was the first boarding school teacher who teaches a class on women. Father Gus Dur, KH Wahid Hasyim, was involved in the Nationalist Movement and became Minister of Religion in 1949. His mother , Ny. Hj. Sholehah, is the daughter of the founder of Boarding Denanyar Jombang. His brother was Salahuddin Wahid and Lily Wahid. He is married to Sinta Nuriyah and blessed with four daughters: Alisa, Yenny, Anita, and Inayah.           
Gus Dur has stated publicly that he has the blood  of Chinese
 He is a leader  of Muslim  Indonesia  and political leaders who became  President of Indonesia  which is the fourth from 1999 to 2001. He succeeded President  B. J. Habibie after being elected by the Assembly  the results of  the 1999 elections.  The period of presidency of Abdurrahman Wahid began on  20 October  1999  and ended at the Special Session of  the Assembly  in 2001.
Gus Dur's first Cabinet, the Cabinet of National Unity, is a coalition cabinet that includes members of various political parties: PDI-P, PKB, Golkar, PPP, PAN, and the Justice Party (PK). Non-partisan and TNI are also in the cabinet. Wahid then started doing two governance reform. The first reform is to dissolve the Ministry of Information, the main weapon of the Suharto regime in control of the media. The second reform dissolved the Ministry of Social Affairs is corrupt
Abdurrahman Wahid many earned Honorary Doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) from various educational institutions:

·          Honorary Doctorate from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand (2000) 
·          Honorary Doctorate from the University of Twente, The Netherlands (2000)    
·          Honorary Doctorate from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, India (2000)  
·          Honorary Doctorate from the University of Soka Gakkai, Tokyo, Japan (2002)  
·          Honorary Doctorate from the University of Humanitarian field Netanya, Israel (2003)  
·          Honorary Doctorate in Law from Konkuk University, Seoul,  South Korea (2003)   
·          Honorary Doctorate of Sun Moon University, Seoul, South Korea (2003)
